Ha Long Bay in winter seems like a pretty peaceful place, because as you know, this is not the season for tourism. It was damp and cold when we visited it. We even wore jackets in the evening because the temperature was below 5 °.
Ha Long Bay is known for its impressive natural beauty and although recently crowned one of the new Seven Natural Wonders of the World, a few people know about the legend of the Bay's legend. Ha Long is also known as Dragon Land or Descending Dragon.
The legend of Ha Long Bay recounts that long ago, when miracles of Vietnam did not yet exist in its present form, the local population had to fight against invaders from China coming from the North by sea. So the gods sent Mother Dragon and her children to help the Vietnam people protect their country. The dragons descended to earth, winning the battle against the invaders and spreading emerald and jade jewels that, after hitting the ground, became the great islands of Ha Long Bay. So the gods sent Mother Dragon and her children to help the Vietnamese people protect their country.
In this way invincible firewalls were formed that enemies could not overcome. The legend is also part of the common belief that the origin of the Vietnamese people is from the Dragon.
These are scattered small islands over a large area in the sea.
Our base location was Cat Ba Island. The hotel helped us book a trip to Ha Long Bay for the next day. The trip was about 9 hours and cost € 25, including pickup from the hotel in the morning, boat trip, a stroll in Kat Ba village, tasting of various local wines (like snake wine), a very good boat lunch, kayaking and swimming. Thank you Cat Ba Sonder for this amazing day! We were about 14 people on this huge boat, which compared to boat trips in the Philippines, was paradise!
In El Nido we were about 20 people on the boat, and the boat was only 10% of the size of the boat in Ha Long Bay. Well, the weather was not the best for a boat ride: 18 ° (which felt like 5 °), windy and light rain at first. They picked us up at 8:00 in the morning and got on the boat at 8:30. The best part about this trip was that we were approaching Ha Long Bay. Ha Long Bay is a very tourist destination. All trips from Hanoi start on the north side of Kat Ba Island, which means that it is absolutely occupied on this side of Ha Long Bay. A much better idea is to start from La Ha Bay, we only saw a few boats all day !!! I couldn't believe it because I was expecting crowds of boats, like in all the videos we watched on YouTube. Lan Ha Bay has about 300 karst islands and limestone crops, which are as beautiful as those of Ha Long Bay but feel more isolated and intact, further attracted by the numerous white sand beaches. In my opinion, the legend of Halong Bay is also very interesting. Ha Long Bay is formed from ancient times because of its geological formation. The locals live in the floating villages we saw in our walk. It is worth seeing these islands.
