Places of Akrotiri and Dhekelia are two areas on the island of Cyprus, which are occupied by British troops. Two British bases are focused on a strategically important area for Britain. This is the Suez Canal and the Middle East.
Dhekelia is situated near Larnaca and Dhekelia is west of Limassol. According to Turkish authorities, these British bases hamper the development in the southern part of Cyprus and in particular tourism. Half of the population in these two regions are ethnic Greeks and Cypriots, but they have the status of citizens of the United Kingdom.
The other half are British military temporary residents. English is the official language, Akrotiri and Dhekelia have the status of a British overseas territory.
Official tourism is not developed in Akrotiri and Dhekelia and prohibited sustainable living in these places.

There are several coastal motels and restaurants for visitors of Akrotiri and Dhekelia. Around them there are dirt roads, and the beach is temporary buildings. The sand is coarse and rocky, but still worth at least walk to this part of the island of Cyprus.
